Dearest friends of the.ego.tripper, have I ever told you I’m a huge fan of traveling? I guess you kinda noticed that already. But have I ever told you I am a huge fan of beer as well? Actually, I think you already knew that too. Anyway, what if you were to combine the two? Like the Ibis hotels in Belgium did recently. That’s right, folks! Ibis Belgium has launched their fabulous ‘beer hopping’ concept. On the beer menu in all of the Ibis bars in Belgium you can find no less than eleven specially selected beers, one from each of our eleven provinces (honestly, I didn’t even know there were eleven provinces, when I went to school there were only nine).

So, what did Ibis do to promote this new concept? Well, they invited the.ego.tripper! Always a good plan of course. Ibis Brussels got the scoop and the honor to serve the.ego.tripper a few quality brewskies. And how I enjoyed it. Luckily I had a ride home, cause after a few Val-Dieus, Barbars and Houblon Chouffes driving is a no-no. Man, even walking straight is a no-no after a night out at Ibis, but that’s not the point.

Point is: Ibis was clever! Turning otherwise kinda dull bars into hotspots for beer loving tourists. I’d say ‘brilliant’! The evening turned out to be brilliant as well. The weather was great, the company faboosh, and the elderly men who finished a plate of cheese stayed well inside, their breath far away from me. Win-win.

Oh, by the way, here’s the list of eleven beers with their provinces:

 Brussels Hoofdstedelijk Gewest: Brouwerij Lefebvre – Blonde van Brussel
 Provincie Antwerpen: Brouwerij De Koninck – Antwerpse Tripel
 Provincie Henegouwen: Brouwerij Dubuisson – Cuvée des Trolls
 Provincie Limburg: Brouwerij en stokerij Wilderen – Tripel Kanunnik
 Provincie Luik: Brouwerij de l’abbaye du Val-Dieu – Blonde Val-Dieu
 Provincie Luxemburg: Brouwerij Achouffe – Houblon Chouffe
 Provincie Namen: Brouwerij du Bocq – Gauloise Ambrée
 Provincie Oost-Vlaanderen: Brouwerij Huyghe – La Guillotine
 Provincie Vlaams-Brabant: Brouwerij Boon – Kriek Boon
 Provincie Waals-Brabant: Brouwerij Lefebvre – Blonde Barbar
 Provincie West-Vlaanderen: Brouwerij Huyghe – Blonde Sint-Idesbald

My fav.

Old man after eating cheese.

Luckily it wasn’t old men only.
